BLACK SOX SWEEP PATRIOTS

Aurora’s 19U Black Sox opened their SABL (Superior Algoma Baseball League) season at IDA Park last night by taking both ends of a doubleheader from the Northern Michigan Patriots. The defending league champions won by scores of 4-3 and 5-4.
In game one Tye Turco picked up the win surrendering one hit, striking out two and walking one. Jacob Scornaiencki pitched four innings in relief for the save giving up three hits, two runs and walking two. Kolton Tremblay had a single, double and one RBI while Bryson Palahnuk tripled and added a single. Ty Cond chipped in with a pair of singles to pace the Black Sox offence. The Sox scored twice in the third and two more in the fifth and held on for the win.
Game two saw the Black Sox walk it off with a come from behind 5-4 victory. In the bottom of the seventh Ryan Oliver and J.A. Giallonardo drew walks and with one out Oliver was advancing to third on a passed ball when the catcher underthrew the third baseman allowing Oliver to score for the walk off win. The Sox trailed 4-1 after four innings. They scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game and set the stage for the walk off win. Jakson Carroll earned the victory in relief of the starter Kolton Tremblay. Carroll allowed two hits, zero runs, striking out six and walking none. Tye Turco went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with 2 runs batted in. Lucas Diberardino, Aaron Keough and Richard Cond added one hit each.
With Wednesday’s DH sweep the Aurora’s Black Sox’s record improves to 2-0 in league play and 16-15 overall. Next action for the Sox is Friday when they play the Manitowac, Wisconsin Ships in their opening game at the Marinette, Wisconsin Fire Cracker Tournament.
