AURORA'S 18U REP A BLACK SOX FALL SHORT 

Gladwin, MI

The Aurora’s 19U Rep A Black Sox lost to their cross-bridge rivals, EUP Wood Ducks, 13 – 5 in the Championship Game of the Bernard Barnes Memorial Invitational held in Gladwin, Michigan over the weekend.

The Black Sox defeated Breckenridge Post 295 by a mercy rule score of 12 – 0 to get to the championship game. Kolton Tremblay picked up the victory allowing one hit, striking out two and walking three. Lucas Diberardino and Jakson Carroll paced the offense each collecting two hits.

The championship game turned into a high scoring affair with both teams playing their fifth game in three days. The Wood Ducks scored one run in the first inning and added seven more in the second and one in the third to take a commanding 9-0 lead after three innings. The Sox tried to mount a comeback in the fourth by scoring five runs to close the gap to 10-5 but that was as close aa they would get.

The Black Sox went 2-1 in preliminary play to qualify for the Sunday semi-finals.

Friday Game #1

The Black Sox defeated Breckenridge Post 295 with a walk-off win 4-3. Jakson Carroll went the distance for the victory allowing five hits and three runs (one earned), striking out none walking two. Lucas Carriere led the Black Sox with two hits.

Friday Game #2

The Black Sox dropped a 3-2 decision to the EUP Wood Ducks. The Wood Ducks broke through in the sixth inning with a single run to break a 2-2 deadlock. Jacob Scornaiencki started the game and went the first five and one-third innings giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits striking out three and walking two and taking the loss. Ryan Oliver and Lucas Carriere each had one RBI in a losing effort.

Saturday Game #3

The Black Sox secured a 7-5 win over the Gaylord Baseball Club. Ryan Oliver earned the win surrendering five hits and three runs striking out one and walking none. Logan Rohe picked up a save in relief. Bryson Palahnuk drove the offence with three singles and two RBI’s.

After the weekend’s action the Aurora’s 19U Black Sox sit with a record of 13-12. Next action for the Black Sox is this Friday in Escanaba, MI when they play Plover, WI at 5:00 PM and Negaunee, MI at 7:30 in the Gregg Johnson/ Al Erickson Memorial tournament.
