9U Black Sox Win Gold

The 9U Soo Black Sox had a dominant weekend going a perfect 5-0 to win the Forest Glade tournament near Windsor, Ontario.

Im game one of the Round Robin on Friday, the gloves and bats were firing on all cylinders as they beat Alvinston 16-0 in only 3 innings

Game two on Saturday morning gave the Soo squad its first taste of the infamous Windsor heat. Battling the elements and the Riverside Royals 14-9.

The third round robin game was postponed Saturday afternoon following heavy rainfall which meant a long Sunday if the Sox were to win the title.

Sunday morning, sweltering heat persisted, and so did three Black Sox stellar play. A 14-5 win vs Lakeside Selects meant the Soo is off to the semi-final.

There the black and orange faced the Tecumseh Rangers. The team’s defence continued as a positive as the Sox win 14-2 punching a ticket to the final.

Last month the 9U club lost a heartbreaker in the final of the Saugeen Shores event in an extra inning.

Determined to prove themselves the young club, in its third game in 40 degree heat, battled the Amherstburg Cardinals. 

In a tense battle, the Sox made some clutch defensive plays and overpowered the Cardinals fielders at the plate, claiming a 16-7 victory after 6 innings.

This is the first gold medal of the year for the 9U Soo Black Sox. A true test of determination for the young team, facing intense heat, and five new baseball teams.

Next up for the 9U team is a Thursday tilt vs 11U House League team, then a weekend of exhibition games vs North Bay and Sudbury on July 19 and 20.
