19U BLACK SOX COME UP SHORT

The Aurora’s 19U Black Sox lost 6-5 to the EUP Wood Ducks in the Semi Finals of the MVB State Tournament on Saturday at James Field, Sault MI. The Sox jumped out to an early 4-1 lead only to see EUP rally and carry a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning. The Sox rallied in the seventh, scoring one run and had runners at second and third when the game ended on a called third strike. Tye Turco went the distance on the hill giving up 9 hits, 2 earned runs, striking out three and walking one.  Bryson Palahnuk paced the Black Sox with a pair of singles and one RBI. Thomas Keough added a single and 2 RBI’s.

Sunday the Black Sox destroyed the Menominee Red Wave 22-2 in the game for third place. The game was called after four innings because of the mercy rule. The Sox scored 2 in the first, 2 in the second, nine in the third and nine more in the fourth to put the mercy rule into effect. Thomas Keough had a career day for the Sox with three singles and collecting 5 RBI’s. Lucas Carriere added a double, two singles and and 2 RBI’S.

Gaylord Baseball Club would defeat the Wood Ducks with a walk off 5-4 win to capture the MVB State Championship.

The Black Sox qualified for the semi finals by defeating Gaylord 10-6 and Ironwood Athletics in a high scoring affair 20 – 15 on Friday in games played at IDA Park. In the victory over Gaylord, Jacob Scornaiencki picked up the win going 6 1/3 allowing seven hits, striking out two while walking one. Tye Turco had a triple, single and a run batted in. Kolton Tremblay added a double, single and one RBI. Ryan Oliver added two singles and two RBI’s while Jakson Carroll had a two run double.

The Sox used 5 different pitchers to secure the 20-15 win. Jakson Carroll started for the Sox, Lucas Carriere picked up the W in relief. Kolton Tremblay paced the Sox’s offence with 2 triples, a single and 4 RBI’s. Lucas Carriere added a triple, two singles and three RBI’s to pace a 14 hit attack for the Black Sox.

The 19U Aurora’s Black Sox overall record is 25-22. Next action for the Sox is this weekend when they will the Thunder Bay Lakers in a four game series. Games will be Saturday at 7:00 PM, Sunday at 11:00 AM and 2:30 and Monday morning at 9:00 AM.
