GUZZO ELECTRIC 18U Black SOX WIN RUDYARD VARSITY BASEBALL TOURNAMENT
On Saturday, the Guzzo Electrical 18U Black Sox won the Championship of the Rudyard Varsity Baseball Tournament in dramatic fashion with a come from behind 6 - 5 walk off victory over the Sault High Blue Devils.
Trailing 5- 4 entering the bottom of the last inning, Lucas Carriere hit a line drive single to left field, Ty Turco then popped out to the 3rd baseman for the first out. Pitcher Hunter Thorkilson followed with a single putting runners at first and second with one out. Chase Cerasuolo reached on an ground ball error by the shortstop to load the bases. Ryan Oliver hit a ground ball back to the pitcher who threw home for the force out leaving the bases loaded but with two out.
First baseman Daniel Stocco then drew a walk bringing in Hunter Thorkilson with the tying run. Outfielder Logan Rohe then singled to right driving in Cerasuolo with the winning run in walk off fashion.
Lucas Diberardino with a double, single and one RBI along with Ty Turco's two singles and one RBI paced the Black Sox offence. Hunter Thorkilson also added a pair of singles.
Thorkilson picked up the win in relief of the starter Ty Turco going 2 innings, giving up 1 hit, 1 walk while striking out 2.
The Black Sox fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first inning but battled back for the dramatic victory.
The Black Sox made it to the Championship game by defeating Grayling, Michigan 4 - 0 in their first game of the day. Ty Turco had a pair of singles and an RBI to pace the Black Sox. Pitchers Kolton Tremblay, Lucas Diberardino and Lucas Carriere combined to allow only 3 hits, walking 3 while striking out 11.
The victories improve the 18U Black Sox record to 4 - 4. Next action for the Sox is Saturday when they travel to Sandford where they will play in a doubleheader with the first game starting at 12:30pm
