18U BLACK SOX MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE
INDIAN RIVER, MI
On Wednesday Guzzo Electrical 18U Black Sox went into Indian River to play the Northern Michigan Patriots a doubleheader in SABL (Superior Algoma Baseball League) action. At the end of the day the Black Sox had swept the Patriots, 6-4 and 13-5 and moved past them into sole possession of first place. Game one saw the Black Sox jump out to a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. The Patriots scored two in the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Using the international tie breaker, Turco was placed as the runner at second base, Kolton Tremblay singled sending Turco to third. Tremblay then stole second and both runners scored on a double to left field by Thomas Keough. Ty Turco retired the side in the bottom of the eighth to secure the victory. Turco went the distance striking out seven while walking none. Kolton Tremblay led the offence with 5 singles, Lucas Carriere added two singles and an RBI while Chase Cerasuolo contributed two singles.
Game two saw the Black Sox overcome a 5-4 Patriot lead by scoring nine runs in the fifth inning for the 13-5 victory. Lucas Carriere picked up the win in relief of the starter Tremblay who went three innings giving up four hits, five runs ( three earned), striking out four and walking seven. Carriere gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none.Lucas Diberardino, Thomas Keough and Logan Rohe each collected two hits while Daniel Stocco had three runs batted in.
The 18U Black Sox saw their league record improve to 6-2, good for first place while the Northern Michigan Patriots drop to 5-3. Next SABL action for the Black Sox is Monday when the travel to James Field in Sault, MI to take on the EUP Wood Ducks in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 PM.
