18U BLACK SOX GO 2 – 2 AT PROVINCIALS

The Aurora’s 18U Black Sox wrapped up their season in Clarington over the weekend participating in the 15 team double elimination Baseball Ontario tournament.
The Black Sox opened the tournament with a tough 4-3 loss to the Caledonia Bears. Caledonia jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Sox would battle back to tie the game at three after six innings. In the top of the seventh inning Tye Turco took over for the starter Jacob Scornaiencki. Turco gave up two hits, with the go ahead run scoring on a sacrifice fly. The Sox were unable to score in the bottom of the seventh and absorbed a tough loss to start the tournament. Ty Cond paced the Black Sox offence with a double, single and one RBI. The loss dropped the Sox into the loser’s bracket.
Friday saw the team bounce back with a pair of victories. In the first game they defeated the North Bay Panthers 13-3 in a game called after six innings due to the mercy rule. The Sox fell behind 3-0 after two innings. Ty Cond paced a 10 hit attack with a triple, single and 2 RBI’s. Tye Turco added a single and 2 RBI’s. Jacob Scornaiencki also contributed a single and two RBI’s. Ryan Oliver started on the mound going 3 1/3 before having to leave the game with an oblique pull. Chase Cerasuolo took over and went the final 2 2/3 allowing no hits and one walk.
Next up was another come from behind win 9-6 over the Mississauga Majors. The Sox were trailing 6-0 going into the bottom of the third. They would score 4 runs to cut into the lead and add one run in the fifth and four more in the sixth for the victory. Thomas Keough collected three singles and one RBI while Bryson Palahnuk had two singles and one RBI. Tye Turco added a double with three RBI’s and J.A. Giallonardo added two singles. Tye Turco picked up the win in relief of the starter Jakson Carroll. Turco went the final two innings giving up no hits, striking out two and walking one.
Saturday saw the Black Sox season come to an end with another tough loss, this time 5-4 to the Wyoming Wranglers. For the fourth straight game the Black Sox fell behind early only to battle back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game by the bottom of the 4th inning. Wyoming scored the go ahead run in the top of the seventh on a two out single and the Sox went 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 7th.Logan Rohe pitched a complete game scattering 10 hits, striking out two and walking none. On offence Ty Cond had an inside the park home run, a single and one RBI. Jakson Carroll chipped in with a pair of singles.
The 18U Aurora’s Black Sox finish the season 8 games over .500 with a 33-25 record. One of their better records in recent years.
