18U BLACK SOX EXIT EARLY AT ESCANABA TOURNAMENT

Guzzo Electrical 18U Black Sox went 0-2-1 at the Gregg Johnson Memorial Tournament this past weekend and failed to advance to the Sunday playoffs.
The Black Sox opened the tournament with a 5-4 loss to the Marinette Purple from Wisconsin. The Sox lost despite out-hitting Marinette 6 to 5. Hunter Thorkilson took the loss going 4 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits, striking out 6 while issuing 5 walks. The Black Sox were led offensively by Lucas Diberardino with a double and a single. Lucas Carriere added 2 singles.
In a must win game in order to advance the Sox had to settle for 5-5 tie with the Plover, Wisconsin Black Sox. The Soo jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings but would not score again. Plover chipped away by scoring twice in the 4th, once in the 5th, once in the 6th and once in the 7th to tie the game. Ty Turco pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of the starter Kolton Tremblay. Turco allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out four and walking none. Kolton Tremblay started the game and went three innings allowing no hits, walking 5 batters and striking out 6. Tremblay had a two run double and Carriere drove in two runs with a single.
Game three saw the Black Sox come out flat and drop a 13-3 decision to the Kingsford Greens. Kingsford took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back. They tacked on 6 more runs in the second inning on 2 hits, 2 walks and 3 Black Sox errors. Lucas Carriere took the loss. Offensively Ty Turco, Thomass Keough, Kolton Tremblay, Ty Cond and Lucas Diberardino each collected one hit.
The Guzzo Electrical 18U Black Sox record now stands at 11-18-1. Next up for the Sox is the Marinette, Wisconsin Firecracker Tournament taking place June 27,28,29. The Black sox play the Manitowoc, Wisconsin Bandits on Friday at 2:30 CST.
