18U BLACK SOX DEFEAT MENOMINEE RED WAVE 4–2

Guzzo Electrical 18U Black Sox defeated the Menominee Red Wave 4-2 on Sunday to salvage a win in the Marinette Firecracker Tournament. The Black Sox scored twice in the bottom of the 6th to break a 2-2 tie. With one out Zach Allard drew a walk, Thomas Keough singled sending Allard to third. Owen James hit a ground ball allowing Allard to score. Keough would later score on a wild pitch to make it 4-2.

Lucas Carriere picked up the win in relief of the starter Lucas Diberardino. Carriere surrendered one hit and one run (unearned) over the final four innings, striking out one while walking four batters. Lucas Diberardino went the first three innings allowing six hits, one run, striking out one and walking none. Ty Turco, Lucas Diberardino, Chase Cerasuolo and Thomas Keough had the hits for the Black Sox.

The 18U Sox opened the tournament on Friday losing to the Manitowoc Bandits 4-0. Hunter Thorkilson took the loss. Henry Currie and Ty Turco each collected a hit in the loss.

Saturday saw the Sox lose to Kimberly, Wisconsin 2-0. The game was scoreless until the 5th inning. Ty Turco took the loss, going six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out one and walking one. Offensively Owen James, Lucas Carriere, Thomas Keough and Zach Allard each collected one hit.

The second game of the day saw the Sox lose to Green Bay Southwest 7-1.Ryan Oliver took the loss, going four innings and giving up 4 runs(two earned), striking out five and walking four. Ty Cond had two hits to lead the offence while Thomas Keough drove in the only run of the game.

Next up for Guzzo Electrical 18U Black Sox (12-21-1) is Wednesday when they travel to Gaylord to play a doubleheader versus the Gaylord Baseball Club. This will open the season for the Black Sox in the SABL( Superior Algoma Baseball League.
