11U Selects Take Valuable Lessons from Innisfil Tournament

The 11U Soo Selects made their tournament debut this past weekend, competing in the Innisfil 11U Dedicated Select Tournament. Despite not taking home any wins, the young athletes demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill, setting themselves up for a successful season.

The Selects faced strong competition in their round robin pool. They battled through each game, often coming very close to securing victories. In each game they were within 3 runs or less, and the team's spirit and determination remained unwavering.

Starting Friday evening against the North York Blues (White DS), they quickly scored 2 runs and held a close game until a rain delay stopped play until Saturday morning. They continued trading the lead Saturday morning until ultimately losing 6-9.

After a quick break, they faced the Whitby Canadians DS. They started with an early lead but then had to battle back after the bottom of the first, scoring at least one run per inning to an 8-10 loss.

They had their final game Saturday evening against the Mississauga Southwest Twins DS. The team was already showing clear improvements from their earlier games, and this time held the lead well into the game. They couldn’t secure the victory though, with a final score of 6-8.

Despite the setbacks, the Selects' coaches were thrilled with their performance over the weekend. "This tournament was a great opportunity for our young athletes to develop their skills and gain valuable experience," said Coach Suurna. "We're incredibly proud of how they adapted to playing together as a team, and now they have some good experience to learn from and improve."

As the season progresses, fans and coaches alike are confident that this talented group will continue to grow and thrive. The Soo Selects' performance at the Innisfil 11U tournament has set a high standard for themselves, and it will be exciting to see how they build on this foundation as they move forward. They will next see tournament play at the Forest Glade Select Tournament, August 1-3, in Windsor.
