11U DS at the Northern Showcase

The Soo Black Sox 11U Dedicated Select team went undefeated at the Northern Showcase, earning three straight victories while demonstrating strong hitting, pitching, defence and baserunning throughout the weekend.

Game 1 — Black Sox 12, Sudbury 11U 1

The Black Sox opened the weekend with an impressive 12-1 win over the Sudbury Shamrocks. The Sox jumped out to an early lead and continued to add runs throughout the game, collecting seven hits, drawing nine walks and stealing six bases. Leo B led the offence with three RBIs, while Jake P, Andrew C, Cole B, Linden L, Mihkel B and Easton G also recorded hits. Jake was strong on the mound, allowing just one hit and no earned runs while striking out seven over four innings, before Reed K closed things out with a scoreless inning and two strikeouts.

Game 2 — Black Sox 10, Sudbury 10U 6

The Black Sox continued their strong play with a 10-6 win over the Sudbury Shamrocks 10U, pounding out 14 hits. Jake P, Cole B, Mihkel B and Easton G each collected two hits, while Cole and Linden L drove in two runs apiece. Cole earned the win on the mound before Napoleon T provided strong relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three over one and one-third scoreless innings. The Sox also turned a double play defensively to help secure their second win of the day.

Game 3 — Black Sox 8, North Bay 10U 7

The Black Sox completed their weekend on the field with an exciting 8-7 victory over the North Bay Panthers 10U. The Sox battled throughout the game, with Rowen M driving in two runs and Leo B going 2-for-2 at the plate. Napoleon T and Noah S also contributed RBI singles, while Easton G stole two bases. Napoleon earned the win with a scoreless relief appearance as the Sox held on to improve to 3-0 on the weekend.

The fourth and final game of the showcase, a rematch against the 11U Sudbury Shamrocks, was unfortunately cancelled due to weather.

The 11U DS Black Sox now return home undefeated from the weekend and turn their attention to preparing for the OBA Championships, taking place Labour Day weekend in Hamilton.
